Club News

The extended closure of Velox’s field placed us in a state of uncertainty for practices since leaving our summer practice grounds at Windsor Park.  I wish to express my appreciation to all of you for your patience during this time and to Beau for arranging the use of SMU’s fields each week in the interim.

While we waited to return to Velox, our club executive recognized that we would face the challenge of coordinating practice time and space as Velox has eight teams that train Thursday evenings – three senior men’s, one senior women’s, three junior men’s and one junior women’s.  We discussed the matter with Velox and after much consideration we have decided to change our practice night to Wednesday for this half of the season.  We can return to Thursday nights in early December.

Why did we decide to change practice nights and what will we gain?  Time and space.

The three junior men’s teams of 60-odd players train from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm.  Our scheduled time is 5:30 – 6:30 pm.  In the past, we have tried to share the main and practice fields with the juniors but invariably we get in each other’s way and disrupt the flow on both sides.  The senior men’s teams take the field sharply at 6:30 pm but their kickers regularly move into the far 22m beforehand to practice which also disrupts our flow.

Changing our practices to Wednesday evenings will give us more field time and space.  We will have exclusive use of the main field from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm with access to the change-room/showers.  In addition, Velox will open the bar for us so that we can keep the post-practice social tradition going strong.
I hope that everyone sees that temporarily changing practice nights is a win-win for both clubs.  I appreciate your understanding the need for this change and I am confident that we will adapt to it quickly.

Looking forward to seeing you at practice next Wednesday (September 29) from 5:00 – 6:30 pm @ Velox and in the clubhouse afterwards!

Cheers,
