Club Information

The Ebb Tide Rugby Football Club is the oldest continuously operating Over-40 rugby club in British Columbia, Canada. We have active players between the ages of 38 and 70's and active social members well into their 80's.  Social members and visitors are welcome to join us at our regular Thursday evening run-around.

Ebb Tide is a member of the Pacific Northwest Over 40's Rugby Union.

Players are eligible to play at 38 years.

Your executive discussed two important items at its June meeting last Thursday.

a)      Summer Dues
Several non-members are regularly coming out to play touch on Thursdays.  We are reviving our past practice of charging non-members $50.00 for summer touch.  We will credit that amount towards full practice or player 2010/2011 membership dues if a person subsequently joins club.  We will not credit it towards social memberships.

b)      Annual Dues & Travel Costs
‘Road warriors’ pay a significant amount on top of their annual dues to support our club compared to playing members that do not travel or rarely travel.  It was suggested that playing membership dues should be greatly increased to make things equitable.  The executive recognized that at the AGM the membership voted in favour of maintaining the current dues.  However, the executive also acknowledged that the disproportionate financial burden on ‘road warriors’ was not raised or contemplated at that time.

We explored our options and found one that would ‘kill two birds with one stone’.  The BCRU Win-Win Lottery raises funds for BCRU, PNWORU and clubs.  Clubs’ participation in Win-Win is mandatory.  However, our participation as individuals in the Win-Win has not been equitable; some sell/buy their allotment of five tickets while others do not.  If we increase our practicing and playing membership dues $50.00, then all of our BCRU-registered members are participating in the lottery and our portion of those funds can go towards offsetting travel costs.

In light of the above, the President is convening a Special General Meeting for all practicing and playing members in good standing July 22, 2010 after practice at Windsor Park to present, discuss and vote on a motion to increase practicing and playing membership dues by $50.00 for Win-Win lottery tickets.
